Marnell Bowling Club has its foundations in the De La Rue Social Club Bowling Club, which was founded in 1988.
With steady growth, the club outgrew the basic storage cabin it started with, and as there were inadequate facilities to entertain visiting teams, it was decided a new clubhouse was needed.
In 1993, it was decided the club would become financially independent. The De La Rue name and logo was replaced with “Marnell Bowling Club” named after a local beauty spot known as “Marnell Dell”.
In 1996 the new clubhouse was built, and officially opened by the Mayor of Basingstoke, Councillor L.T Garland J.P. The new clubhouse had facilities to accommodate six full rinks of players, and a members bar.
Today Marnell Bowling Club thrives, with games and roll-ups being played all week all year round (indoor short mat during the Winter), with Summer BBQ’s, Social Events, fun days and evening events to suit everyone.
We at Marnell are always looking for new members to join our club. With friendly people Marnell looks to grow, so if you fancy trying your hand at bowls why not pop down to one of our roll-up events and have a go.
As part of the Local Authorities access scheme Members of the Public are permitted to play Bowls on two of the six rinks at any time the Club is open. They must provide all their own equipment (mats, bowls, jack etc) and wear appropriate flat soled footwear.
